Deputy Minister at the Department of Communications, South Africa

Pinky Kekana was born in Bela-Bela. Kekana has completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree (specializing in Education and teaching). She currently reading for a Postgraduate Diploma in Economic Policy at the London School of Economics.

Kekana's experiences as a secondary school teacher fuelled her passion for education and South African’s young people. She is committed to improving opportunities for young South African’s, from all walks of life.

As an agent for change, Kekana is committed to increasing the profile of women on the African Continent, promoting women’s and equality more broadly. She wants everyone, but particularly women and girls to feel empowered.

As the Deputy Minister of Communications and someone from a rural town, Kekana understands and recognises the vital importance of bridging the Digital divide between people living, working and travelling in regional and remote parts of the country and those metropolitan cities.
Our society is rapidly moving towards using cutting edge technology and more people are getting access to the internet year on year. Kekana believes that rural South Africans should have access to 21st century ICT tools to run their businesses, complete their studies and connect with family and friends.
Kekana was elected to the Provincial legislature in 1999 and was re-elected in 2009. She has served as the Executive Mayor of Waterberg District and a MEC for Roads and Transport as well as a MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism.
In her role as a Member of Parliament, Kekana has been a part of a number of committees most notably the Standing Committee on Finance, Defence and the Ad Hoc Committee on the Filling of Vacancies in the Commission for Gender Equality. In March 2018 she was subsequently appointed as the Deputy Minister of Communications.
As the Secretary General of PAWO, Kekana is committed to ensuring that all African women, regardless of where they live, have access to opportunities that will benefit them and their local communities.

Obama White House Digital Leader

Tom Cochran spent over four years in the Obama administration as a presidential appointee and digital leader helping advance the President’s open government directive.

He currently speaks to international audiences about his experiences to help differentiate digital from IT, gain competitive advantage through emerging technologies, and embrace a "digital-first" culture.At the White House, he ran digital technology powering WhiteHouse.gov to amplify President Obama’s message, and led the team that built the 'We the People' petitions platform. He ran global public diplomacy platforms for the U.S. Department of State, emphasizing digital modernization, a cloud-first approach, and the power of relationships and networks to advance U.S. foreign policy abroad.





In the private sector, he ran the government business development practice as the Chief Digital Strategist and VP of Public Sector at Acquia, the leading cloud provider of digital experience management platforms. He also served as the Chief Technology Officer for Atlantic Media (i.e., owner of The Atlantic, Quartz, GovExec, National Journal brands).

He was the first person hired by Blue State Digital (Obama campaign's digital team), spending a few years engineering the early applications that would grow into the robust digital platform which helped President Obama raise $1.2 billion online in two election cycles.

Early in his career, he was the lead engineer and inventor on a content and feedback management system, which was awarded a U.S. patent.

Global businessman, academic and South African philanthropist Teddy Daka is a living embodiment of leadership that is inspired to actively lead and help drive the potential that Africa has witnessed in the last few years, and one that is confident in the continent’s future economic possibilities, development and shared prosperity.

Teddy is Group CEO and a major shareholder in Etion Limited, a Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) listed digital technology solutions provider and a company he joined in 2012 first with the objective to turn it around from a loss-making business into a profitable one, and secondly to transform it from its engineering heritage to a digital technology business that is market ready to drive the 4th Industrial Revolution on the African continent and globally.

Today the business has transformed into a provider that sees limitations as opportunities, and design solutions that enhance the safety, productivity, connectivity and cyber security of it its customers. Etion moves products and solutions from ideation, to design and manufacturing across diverse industries on the continent and in the Middle-East, with aspirations for Austral-Asia.

Teddy is a keen academic, currently studying for his Phd. He holds a masters in business administration, a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management (Honours) and has completed several executive programmes at international business school

Lee Naik is CEO of TransUnion Africa and is recognised as one of SA's leading digital and technology transformation experts. Naik has worked across all spheres of government and private sector industries. He has a deep understanding and appreciation of the transformative role technology can play and his experience ranges from developing first-in-country strategies and solutions to leading complex delivery programmes.

In his previous role as MD of Accenture Digital, he focused on helping organisations transform their businesses to remain competitive in an increasingly digital world. A frequent speaker and commentator, Naik was recognised as a global top 10 commentator in the 2015 LinkedIn Top Voices awards, and was a recipient of the 2015 Standard Bank Rising Stars Award. In 2016, he was one of the top 10 finalists for the IITPSA's IT Personality of the Year award.

Andrew Darfoor is a financial services CEO with a successful +20 year track record bringing bold vision and all-encompassing strategic planning to international next-stage business growth, re-invention and turnaround challenges. His achievements have been recognized by CEO Today - Africa in 2017 as a leading CEO in the Winners Edition.

He has successfully developed blueprints to build brands, competitively positioned product/service solutions and market/distribution channel expansion, while also improving cost controls, margins and operating processes/systems as divisional CEO for two Fortune 100 organizations and as Group CEO for a leading pan-African publicly listed financial services leader.

He has held various Board memberships and positions, with experience of reporting to public companies’ parent and divisional boards.

He is an economics graduate from the University of London (1995); a UK qualified chartered accountant (1998) and obtained his MBA from Cranfield School of Management, UK (2005). Andrew has also completed Advanced Management programs at Kobe University, Japan (2005); Harvard, US (2008) and Insead, France (2011). In 2016, he was awarded the Excellence in Achievement Award from Cranfield School of Management presented by the Dean of the School.

He is a Board Member of The Association for Savings and Investment South Africa (ASISA). In his capacity at ASISA, he chairs the Regulatory Affairs Committee interacting with the regulator (Financial Services Board); National Treasury; SA Reserve Bank, National Treasury Tax Policy Unit, SA Receiver of Revenue and various Parliamentary Committees.

He has also lived and worked in multiple international jurisdictions including London, Milan, Dubai, Copenhagen, New York, Boston and Johannesburg. He is active in his local community as well as in philanthropic activities, and is past Chairman (now Chairman Emeritus) of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) Manhattan, US Chapter.

Lance Shingai Mambondiani is Chief Executive Officer at Steward Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of Econet Wireless Limited. He also doubles up as CEO of the Digital Banking Arm for Cassava Fintech, another subsidiary of Econet Wireless Global responsible for digital banking projects across Africa. He is a Lawyer and Banker with years of experience at executive level and was recently named in an Africa Report Magazine 2017 top list of - Who is Who in African Finance.

He has worked across Africa, Europe, and the USA for various Banking and Financial Institutions. He was also engaged as a Lecturer in International Finance for development at the University of Central Lancashire Business School and as guest lecturer in Financial Markets and Corporate Governance at the University of Manchester. He has also had roles as Managing Director of Kingdom Private Bank, a division of Kingdom Financial Holdings and Chief Executive Officer of TN Asset Management, a subsidiary of TN Bank in Zimbabwe. Prior to his banking career, he practised as a corporate attorney.

He is a Chevening scholar, attaining his PhD from the University of Manchester in 2011, analysing the relationship between bank ownership, corporate governance and profitability in the Zimbabwean banking sector. He has a combination of skills in retail and investment banking, economics, trade finance, corporate finance, law and development finance.

Mike Perk is the CEO of WWC, a "people focused" digital transformation advisory. Mike is also a founding partner in Heavy Chef, an inspiration platform for innovators and leaders in the digital space.

His career in digital began back in the mid 1990's. Since then he's been consulting and helping companies grow and transform in the digital age.

Mike is responsible for helping guide organisations through the people and organisation change that is required in order to achieve an innovation culture and true digital transformation.

He's passionate about learning and teaching in this space, either on the international speaker circuit, through his learning and change management programmes or through the coaching of leaders that are looking to transform their organisations and become more relevant in a digitally connected world.

He's worked with clients in all sectors, but particularly in finance, automotive, retail and government. They include Rand Merchant Bank, Virgin Mobile, Hyundai, Old Mutual, Woolworths, City of Cape Town and iStore.

She approaches technology from the perspective of adding value of efficiency to the business and improving processes and communication & innovation in Digitization and collaboration of business as a whole.
In her current role as a CIO she supports the Transnet business in strategic leadership, management, department leadership, direction, training, project management, governance, information security, Intergration of systems, Business Intelligence, knowledge manage to, architecture and infrastructure, skill development, innovation, R & D, customer efficiency, insourcing and outsourcing, financial management, budgeting, collaboration and custome efficiency of Transnet as well as maintaining its trust ” Agility, Digitisation, Admiratin and Unity.

Priya is the Chief Digital Officer at the South and East African Business Unit at Coca-Cola and has over 20 years’ experience in Digital from building and selling her own tech start-ups to building and running digital channels for one of the largest global banks – Barclays Africa Group. Her skills span across digital strategy; commercialisation and transformation, ecommerce and digital channel management in the online, retail and banking sectors. In 2017, she was nominated for the Young Global Leader for the World Economic Forum and is an activist in driving more women to STEM fields and addressing financial inclusion. She teaches Digital Business Strategy at MIT Sloan and is a thought leader is transforming businesses through Digital.
